HILLCREST VILLAGE SOCCER CLUB

September News Letter

Welcome to the September news letter…

We are now at the end of the 2007 season and will be closing Hillcrest for the winter…  We will be sending out one final notice to everyone for the AGM.  Hope to see you there!

Finals Day

Finals Day was held on Saturday September 8 and Sunday September 9 and was a great success...  On Saturday the weather was beautiful, despite the weatherman’s warnings earlier in the week and on Sunday we had a little rain in the morning, but it cleared up quickly.  Trophies for players who were not able to be at Finals Day were given to the team coaches to be distributed.

Councillor David Shiner  Hillcrest’s #1 supporter… THANK YOU!

Hillcrest depends on the availability of our City facilities and services in order to deliver our soccer program to our members.  Part of the administrative side of our Club, which most people never see, is in the interacting with the City of Toronto, whose fields we use to play on, whose services we utilize for grass cutting and garbage pick up and the facilities that we use at the Cummer Community Center.  Fortunately for Hillcrest, one of our biggest supporters over the years has been Councillor David Shiner who has represented our community for many years.  David has been a tireless worker on behalf of our community and has been invaluable as a friend and supporter for our Club.  David’s assistance over the years has been significant for the smooth running of Hillcrest. David’s son Matthew played in our League many years ago and though his son no longer plays for us, David has kept a keen interest in Hillcrest, as he does with our entire community, working on our behalf and coming out on Finals Day each year to support our Club.  To David and his staff, we thank you for all that you have done for us over the years.  Your assistance and guidance has been invaluable to us and allowed us to expand and improve the programs that we run.

David will be running for the Progressive Conservative Party in the upcoming Provincial Election October 10 and they couldn’t have picked a better candidate.  Having represented our community locally for many years he is very aware of the issues within our community and with our City.  His vast political experience will serve the Conservative party well and would give our Community and City an experienced, active voice at Queens Park.

Katie’s Kickoff… A HUGE SUCCESS!

New at Finals Day this year was Katie’s Kickoff.  This was a donation based fund raiser in support of and to raise awareness of The Hospital for Sick Children.  One of our players Katie Armstrong was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, ARVD (arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia) This is a rare, hereditary condition in which the cells in the heart attack the right ventricle turning it into fibrous tissue so it cannot beat properly. It can cause heart failure and even sudden death. Extremely difficult to diagnose, Katie had to endure a five hour operation where surgeons worked inside her heart. Now with daily medication, constant testing and monitoring because of Sick Kids, Katie currently, has been able to return to sports. She wanted to give back to the people who work miracles each and every day.

Through Katie’s Finals Day efforts $261.44 was raised for Sick Kid’s Hospital despite the rain on Sunday. A huge thank you to all of you who participated.

Katie has become an ambassador for Sick Kids, participating in fund raising and media events to help represent the thousands of children who are treated each year in cardiology. During September’s Sick Kids/Argo’s Day, Katie and fellow ambassadors participated in the coin toss and opening kick off at the Toronto Argos game. They are dedicated to “giving back” to help the hospital and children in need of their own miracles.

Hillcrest’s Sponsors… THANK YOU!

Sponsors are an extremely important part of our organization.  Through their generosity, they contribute a significant amount to our operating budget.  We owe them a great big thank you for their support of our League.  We ask you, the parents, to please look at our list of sponsors and where ever possible, buy their products and utilize their services.  If you don’t know the product or services a particular sponsor offers, GOOGLE them!  If you can’t find any information regarding them, send us an e-mail and ask!  These are generous business people who love our community and make significant contributions to us.  We need to show our sponsors the same support that they show us…  They have earned and deserve your respect and support.  Please take the time to become familiar with our sponsors and use their products and services whenever possible…  The more we support our sponsors, the more our sponsors will support us.
