January News Letter

Greetings Hillcrest Village!

Best wishes to everyone and looking forward to a great 2009 for everyone.

Registration for the 2009 outdoor season is now open!  An e-mail and registration form will be sent out to our past members to give them first opportunity for registration.  We will be offering an “Early Bird” special to our members with the registration fee set at last year’s amount of $150.00 per player.  The registration fee increases to $175.00 per player on February 1st, so act quickly to take advantage of this offer!

The Ontario Soccer Association has decided to change the registration system starting in 2009, so we are not able to offer on-line registration at this point.  An update will be posted on the website when this functionality has been restored.

As has been our practice, the Board of Directors have reviewed the past 2008 season, discussed feedback forwarded by our members and have some exciting changes to announce for 2009.

Hillcrest Village has negotiated an agreement with our neighbours to the south, the North York Cosmos, to allow us to work together in providing the best possible soccer programs for all of our members.

Hillcrest and the North York Cosmos will be operating a joint Under-18 Mixed and an Under-18 Girls House League division this coming outdoor season.  This will allow our older players to play against players within their own age group.  The Under-18 divisions will also play their playoff games in the month of August to ensure those players leaving for university or college can play in their team’s playoff games.  These changes will allow us to create two new divisions in the Hillcrest House League.   An Under-16 Mixed and an Under-14 Girls division will now be created to allow the younger players, who previously had to play in the Under-18 divisions against players, in some cases, four to five years older, the opportunity to play against players within their own age group.  We feel this will be a significant and much welcomed change for a number of our players and help keep players in soccer.  We are also looking to reinstate our Under-09 and Under-11 Mixed divisions for 2009.

We will be significantly modifying our Girls Divisions by offering an Under-06, Under-08, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14 and Under-18 divisions.  We will also be working with the North York Cosmos to provide All-Star and Rep teams in all of the Girls age levels up to and including Women’s competitive.  Both Hillcrest and the North York Cosmos believe that Girl’s Soccer has long been neglected in North York and we are taking steps to create a Girl’s division second to none.

Hillcrest has traditionally emphasized the recreational side of youth soccer and this will continue to be our primary focus.  We will however, where volunteers exist, create All-Star and Rep teams to offer our members these programs where the demand exists.  In divisions where we do not have volunteers step up, we will work with the North York Cosmos to have our interested players given the opportunity to try-out for a Cosmos/Hillcrest Rep team.

These changes are directly affected by player registration and volunteers stepping forward.  We will be, for the first time, launching a concentrated “recruiting” effort to increase our numbers and to allow these programs to be successful.  We are encouraging Hillcrest players and former players to register for a summer of “fun in the sun” and especially encourage parents to step up and volunteer to coach.  The more volunteers we have, the more programs we can offer our players.

Hillcrest will also be offering coaching and refereeing clinics this year to help introduce new volunteers to the game and to help upgrade the skills of our returning coaches and officials.  Hillcrest will also be following the OSA Volunteer Screening Policies this year that will require a police screening for our volunteers.

We work hard to provide a program that not only meets, but exceeds your expectations.  To be successful, we need your help and your feedback.  If you have some time to spare, PLEASE contact us to volunteer.  If you have any constructive suggestions on how to make Hillcrest even better, please share your thoughts by e-mailing pres@hillcrestvillagesoccer.com.

Indoor Soccer Alert!!!

To all players who are interested in playing indoor soccer, Hillcrest and the North York Cosmos will be running an indoor house league on Sundays at the Toronto Soccer Plex.

As we always want to meet the needs of all of our members, we wanted to remind everyone of the indoor league that starts up in mid-January.

We look forward to seeing everyone this summer for an exciting season.  Keep checking our website over the upcoming weeks, as we will be announcing additional exciting changes in Hillcrest to make your soccer experiences truly enjoyable and memorable.

That’s all for now!  Until next time, keep kicking!!!

Yours in soccer…
